COMMON KNAPWEED (Centaurea nigra) Thistle like in COMMON KNAPWEED (Centaurea nigra) Thistle like in appearance, common knapweed provides a rich source of nectar for pollinators. Found in meadows and various grassy areas throughout the UK and best seen from June to September. COMMON RAGWORT (Senecio jacobaea) Toxic to livesto COMMON RAGWORT (Senecio jacobaea) Toxic to livestock but important to pollinators. Considered a weed under the Weeds Act 1959, there is even a code of practice on preventing its spread. It is often found on uncultivated ground, grazing land (a problem for livestock) and waysides. Seen from Spring through to Autumn. Fairly widespread, it can be found in grasslands, woodland, scrub and even old quarries! Best seen between June and August. SELFHEAL (Prunella vulgaris) A low growing creepin SELFHEAL (Prunella vulgaris) A low growing creeping wildflower, common in grasslands. Best seen from June to October.
